Heat thief

Tripod, the cat who thinks he's a dog, is a thief of warm spots. If I get up from where I'm sitting he whips in there faster than light to suck the heat from the spot and completely resists moving. I gave into his theft - enabler, yes, I know - and sketched his blissful heatsucking slumbers. He has that broad face and solid build of a tom cat and constantly reminds me of Garfield.

This sketch was done in a hardcover sketchbook 7 x 10, mechanical pencil. Unfortunately when I scanned it, the sketch on the next page showed through a little as a shadow in the background.

I'm calling the Pacific Arch finished and still haven't got a good image of it. There's a distinct lack of sunshine here lately which makes it near impossible to get a clear image. I'll keep trying however.

I'll work on finding the right sea arch for its Atlantic companion piece. There are a number of arches around the island and I hope to visit a few once the snow recedes. Meanwhile I'll do some practice with pastels and try to come up to speed with them once again.

Your cat is adorable! Nice soft colors you used in your arch. I'd like to know what you think of the Saint-Armand paper after you use it.

I love this sketch of Tripod. Just like all cats, they get comfy anywhere.

Nice job on the pastels. I thought about taking the new class but decided not to. I don't like messy and don't want to deal with breathing the dust. I am claustrophic so a mask isn't an option. So I will save the money from the supplies...and I ordered instead some new colored pencils from Dick Blick.(new Colorsoft)

Lovely colors used in the arch. Jeanne

That is such a cat-like pose! And such cat-like action too. My parents used to have a boy cat who used to behave in the same way. have you ever noticed how it's always the boys - nesh creatures!

Pastel suits you Jeanette. Have you tried fiddling with the levels? I'm finding that gets the best results for me during these winter months with the funny dull light.

I'll let everyone know what I think of the Saint Armand paper once I've had a chance to use it. The supplier says it will take 8 -12 days to get here. I hate living on an island sometimes. Sigh.

Thanks Jeanne. Yes he's a comfort seeker alright. I've enjoyed using pastels again, but I agree it is dusty. Perhaps a good outdoor medium in the summer :)

He's good to draw Katherine as he sleeps like a log in the same position for 5 or 10 minutes at a time before moving. Promising him tuna for sitting works too...

This last image is about the best colour-wise that I could tweak on the levels in my graphics program. I need to really read the camera manual too, to get the best out of the camera.
