Paying it forward

I was browsing Vivien Blackburn's blog and came across a new blog meme - Paying It Forward. The concept of this is karma - you get what you give. Vivien will provide 3 individuals with a piece of her art work on the promise that they make the same offer on their blog. How could I resist the opportunity seeing one of Vivien's beautiful little watercolours or sketches in person? So I left a comment and hopefully will be lucky enough to have been one of the first three individuals to do so.

So often we guard our knowledge in art in the hopes that it gives us an edge either on drawing or painting techniques, materials, where the latest sale of art supplies is or imparting knowledge to students. I have been trying hard to dispel that trait in my life by sharing what I know and what I possess with others. It can be something small such as sharing tools with an budding artist or sharing the latest news about an opportunity to enter an art show. Or it can be more elaborate such as taking the time to create a personal gift of art or spend time to show someone how a drawing is produced.

Karma does come to those who give. So I, thanks to Vivien's (and many others) posts I am offering some of my work to those who will, in turn, do the same on their blogs and in their lives.

I will provide an art piece - I don't know what size or medium at this point - to the first 3 artists who leave comments on my blog. This time of year being busy, so the work may not go out til later in the year or in the new year, but it WILL go out. Those who do sign up must promise to share their abundance with others and do so publicly on their blogs.

For those who were not in the first three to comment, consider doing something for someone to make their road to art easier. It doesn't have to be a big thing, even a random supporting message is often what someone really needs to help them over the hump of a particular day. Share your good ideas and deeds with me. We can all do with inspiration to help others.

Jeanette,

This is a fabulous idea! I'd love to get something of yours if I've made it in time. I'd certainly post about it and offer something to my first three commentators.

You are indeed in Rose and the first!

Send your mailing address to me jjobson at nl dot rogers dot com and I'll make sure that you will have something within the next couple of months.

The world needs a little bit of sharing. :)

What a lovely thought, Jeanette. I just discovered your blog, love not only "paying it forward" but the thoughtfulness of the following post, "Pareto's Principles," and hope you don't mind it I make a link to it on my blog for my readers.

I started my website about three years ago, more or less as a community service, to bring patrons to art fairs in the US, so my artist friends could continue to earn a living. I've spent a good deal of time on it. The thought was in the back of my mind that maybe there would be some financial return, well, we'll see how that goes.

So, as far as paying it forward, there is so much one person can do that has a direct or indirect impact on others and it is always a good thing.

I would love to have one of your images and I could pay it forward by offering services on my website to three people or organizations.

Welcome to my blog Constance. I'm so glad you stopped by and even more happy that you've decided to participate.

I think you're already the mode of PIF in some ways with your site and sharing your services with three others would be wonderful.

Just email me your physical mailing address and I will send you a piece of art as soon as I can - or withinn 2 months!

Wow Jeanette, how cool.
I feel that I already owe much of my art to your instruction. You have pushed me by leaps and bounds in this last year. The idea of actually seeing a piece of your art in person, would I am sure inspire me to greater heights. My blog doesn't get as much traffic but I am sure I can find three people or maybe even charities to share with. I am here crossing my fingers that someone else didn't get here first. If not I will consider doing this anyways, as like I said, I have already received so much from you.

Paulette, I'd love you to join in. I do have another person who did sign up with me but in the wrong comment section.

However, I'll happily share my art with you too, as one more is not a hardship. Just send me your physical mailing address and I'll send something out within the next month or two. Send your address to me at jjobson at nl dot rogers dot com

Hi Jeanette,

New to the painting blog world (but planning entry for a year), I am still organizing my time and approach outside of the basic posting business. One step at a time. After reading this lovely post, I wanted to take the opportunity to say hello. I've stopped by in the past and look forwardt to more visits, reading and artwork of yours from here on in. Love looking at your landscapes, drawings and cats. I teach drawing, too but we can chat about that later. Carry on the good work!

That's great Paulette, just email your physical mailing address to me and I'll get something out - likely in the New Year at the rate I'm going. But you will get something.
