Seeing double

The Snowman II
coloured pencil

The Snowman I
pen & ink, coloured pencil

I was looking through some photos that I have on my hard drive looking for a specific image when I came across these two images that I drew in separate years.

It was the same photo reference, a glass snowman that I've had for years. The medium is a slight overlap but the difference that the paper and medium make to the final image creates very different pieces.

I keep thinking about printing cards for Christmas but never seem to wrap my mind around it in time. I think this year, I'll start very early and come up with a couple of designs that will work. I think the snowman will still be in the mix. Perhaps this year, he's due for another remake in a different medium. Oils? Watercolour? Pastel? A series of this little guy in say half a dozen mediums, all the same size, could be interesting once framed.

Jeanette, I've already started my card for next year (well it was supposed to be for this year, but I used my Dec. VSD painting instead - just call me cheater :D ). I'm trying to talk Rose into doing the same. Want to join in the fun?
By the way, I love both of these snowmen!

I'm hoping something will strike my fancy for next year's card over this Christmas. :)

Good idea to use the last VSD painting you did. I just didn't have much time to participate in that one.

Jeanette, these snowmen are absolutely adorable! Love the mediums you chose but then again I am a bit biased. :-)

I am delighted to read that I am not the only artist on the planet that once again failed to create her own cards. I know that this is something that has to go in my day planner in August or it won't get done. Somehow it just keeps getting shuffled to another week and then another month. I console myself that what with the cost of card stock and printer ink, I am saving money by not creating my own. Having said that, I do intend to create cards in 2009!! And I will be selling them during my November studio tour!! No excuses this time...maybe I had better jot it down for June just to be sure... :-)

Jeanette, my favorite so far is the colored pencil version, but I will look forward to seeing your graphite and oil versions, and of course many more. There is not one that you are not excellent at.

Ronell, I think that first is my favourite too.

Teresa, thanks. I love snowmen and this ornament I never tire of.

I think I need to next years card this Christmas while the mood strikes.

Mary, you're so kind. Thank you.

I made my own cards for the first time this year. I only made one design but next year I am planning on doing a couple of different ones. I really love your snowmen--my favorite is the colored pencil on black paper.
