More portraits

Update 2

Keith - 1
9 x 12 coloured pencil

I've made a start on my next portrait - actually I'm doing two at once. The other is a self portrait for a challenge in WetCanvas. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment.

I'm liking the Colourfix support more and more now that I'm understanding how it grips the pigment and how much I can manipulate it. I've tracked down a Canadian source for it now, as I'm still using the package of paper that I bought in California and don't want to order cross border with the current market not quite so dollar friendly.

Just in case others are looking for colorfix paper in Canada, here are a short list of some reputable suppliers I've found so far. If anyone knows of other suppliers in Canada, let me know and I'll add them to the list.

This is really coming together well, Jeanette. I love how you're treating the light on the left side of the canvas.

Looking wonderful, love the light on the viewers LHS

Thanks Billie, I'm enjoying doing them and have a bunch in the pipeline. I'm doing some promo ones this year to generate some more interest. Keep your fingers crossed!

I like it so far too Steve. The light is quite subtle on the left so I'm building layers gradually.

Anita, the light is what attracted me to do this piece. I got away with having to do hair and have a beard to do instead! :)

Jeannette, your portrait is coming along beautifully! I have one question - and having just gotten new glasses, it made me see this quickly: The way the side of the head behind the glasses on the viewer's left - in a photo it would really look this way - distorted by the thickness of the lens; but would you paint it that way or make a change so there isn't that distortion? Just curious as I was noticing that with my own thicker-every-year lenses.

Rhonda, glasses do distort whatever is behind them and the facial distortion would be seen whether in a photo or real life.

If it weren't included, it would not look right. I like reality, so will only draw what I see and don't leave out anything unless its a vanity piece where someone requests to be 10 years younger! :)

I'm doing a self portrait for a challenge and it in I'm wearing glasses with the same distortion element in it. Its just a fact of life that breathes life into the painting IMO.
