Operation Aborted

Ducklings - Bowering Park

Several of my blog readers have reported problems accessing this blog through Internet Explorer and get the dreaded 'Operation Aborted' message, sending you to a Microsoft problem reporting site.

Some bloggers have stated that changing from the inline comment form, to a popup or separate form, has helped eliminate their version of the problem. Presumably, the problem, if this is going to be effective, will be seen only in single post mode, not in archive or main page view.

The Real Blogger states:

Blogger Support acknowledges the problem, and notes
This only affects viewers using IE to view the blog; for right now, blog owners can either move the Followers gadget lower in their sidebar, or remove it altogether. Either action will eliminate the pop-up dialog box in IE.
Two weeks after the latest problem was reported, though, this problem continues. And some bloggers are recently reporting that their blogs have this problem, and it's not apparently solved by removing the Blogger Followers / Google Friend Connect gadgets, or by changing the comment form from "Embedded below post" to "Full page" or "Popup".

The longer that this latest version of the problem goes, unsolved or unacknowledged by Blogger Support, the more confusion this causes. People who would like Following / Friend Connect, or the inline comment form, on their blogs, won't be installing them because they are uncertain what will happen to their readers ability to access their blogs. And if the original problem (problems) which existed before May 2009 continue, or if new non Blogger caused problems occur, we won't know about them because we wait for Blogger Support to fix the known (or perceived) problem with Following / Friend Connect.
Based on the above information, I'm not sure what I should do. It seems until Blogger Support fixes the problem, I don't really know what the problem is! I'm am hesitant to remove Followers and have those individuals lose their links on my page and I my connection to them. So I will remain status quo for a few more days until I hear more information. Until then, my recommendation is to use Mozilla Firefox, as that does not seem to have clashes with Blogger.

Hi Jeanette,
I started getting complaints after I changed to the full-page comment form with the text visible. I dropped the Follower gadget for a while, and eventually returned to having the comments appear on their own page (whatever that's called). I since added the Follower gadget in again and have heard no complaints. But I suppose if somebody gets dumped out immediately, they wouldn't know how to reach me anyway!! I'm with you -- Firefox is the way to go!!

I have had problems with a couple of blogs that I visit but if I switch from IE to Goggle Chrome everything works well.

Its frustrating Chris. I use Firefox pretty much all the time so don't experience IE problems. I've moved the Followers further down the page to see if that makes a difference.

I haven't used Google Chrome Teresa, but I'll remember that and recommend it to people who are having problems accessing the blog.

Thanks Megha, the little ducklings were so sweet paddling around. I wanted to take them all home with me :)

the duckings looks so cute :D

I haven't had anyone contact me about having problems viewing my blog, first I've read of it. I do like having the follower widget on my blog, but if it causing problems its not worth having :/ I Have had nothing but problems tho when trying to comment on other blogs when they have the comment form that looks like a box, it either doesn't load or takes forever to load :/ The more I read about problems on blogger the more I think I should just host my blog on my site (but then somethings on blogger are really easy to use)

As soon as I saw your 'Operation aborted' title, I thought, 'Great, Jeanette is going to solve my problem.' And you did! Had to open (and lose) your blog three times to get the whole message...
Nice ducklings too.

Jennifer, I think the comment box is one of the problems too and I'll be experimenting with that. In the pop up form, it makes it easier for the writer to see the blog and comment, that's all.

I haven't had any issues with Blogger til this so will likely stick with it for the time being.

How frustrating for you Charlene. But if you got any help out of it, that's great.

I have a thing for little ducklings. :)

I'm wondering if the new IE8 is the problem. I know of a few that say it's awful and once you install it you're stuck with it. It can't be removed. I have had no problems accessing blogs but I use the old IE6.

You may well be correct on that Billie.
