Yes, its another apple...

On my continuing exploration of apples, I dug around in my stash of supports and found a piece of translucent yupo. My next apple was going to be on a traditional watercolour support, but I thought I'd try the yupo and go really loose, as only yupo can do.

It was a bit of a struggle and some of the colours overmixed and became a bit muddy in places, but the general idea is there.

I'm of two minds with yupo. Part of me enjoys the experimentation aspect of it and how loose it makes you think and paint. Another part craves the detail and smooth blending that traditional watercolour paper would allow if worked dryer. I think that I will get another couple of pieces of yupo in my next order just for times when I want this strong impressionistic feel to a piece.

Any suggestions for the next apple in terms of support or medium?

Oh, I love the softness of the Yupo one! It's fabulous. As for what to do next, I'll just trust you to come up with something wonderful. This is great, Jeanette.

It looks as though the apple is made of glass! Cool!

I don't know what Yupo is. . .will google it in a minute. But this apple's beautiful. Looks like water that decided to shape itself into an apple just for the joy of feeling the form. . .

Knowing how much you like detail in your drawings, you are very brave to paint on Yupo. I tried it once and it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. I love all the inspiration you are finding in this apple challenge. It makes me want to create my own contribution. Hopefully soon.

I really like the swirly effect here, works well on the apple

I like Yupo a lot, has its quirks but I like how vibrant colours can be on it

Thanks Sue, yupo is fun to play with.

Billie, I hadn't seen or used translucent yupo before so that may add to the glass=like appearance of the apple.

What a great way of putting it Mekeel!

Thanks Pat, glad you're enjoying them.

Stacy, its good to go outside your comfort zone. That how I learn and grow. I hope you can find time to join in.

Yes, I'm beginning to like it too Jennifer. It gives lots of possibilities when you want something unique.

Jeanette...I am truly enjoying the apple series. The Yupo gives a result that puts me in mind of looking through glass block at the apple.
As for what ground next...whatever is at the bottom of the paper drawer :)
