Experiments and snow

An experiment on Myrna Wacknov's blog, Creativity Journey, inspired me to try it myself.  Myrna was trying watercolours on regular printer photographic paper and I just had to join in the fun.  The slick surface has similarities to yupo, in that it doesn't sink into the paper, but pools on the surface.  You definitely need a loose style to work on this and I enjoyed trying to create a face on the surface.

I love the way the paints run into each other depending on how much water I use or pigment.  I may go back into this with some inks to add definition or perhaps add another medium to it.  With a big box of photographic paper from a large box store, it gives me an economical way to experiment with the surface.

Yesterday was a day full of snow.  Today was a day full of snow clearing.   This is my little car sitting in 16 inches of snow waiting to be dug out this morning.  The snow on the window made me think times when artificial 'snow' in a can was used to decorate windows inside years ago when I was in the UK.  I guess I don't need that effect here do I?

I followed your link from Myrna's blog. I love the way your man came out on the photo paper. Well done!

Thanks Dan. The paper's a great idea to work on.

There's lots of possibilities with this stuff Chris.

You're really getting into experimentation these days! Good for you as this is really cool. Maybe not the traditional portrait but well worth the effort you expended.

Please keep your snow! I thought it looked like snow here yesterday but we didn't get any!

I love the loose look you achieved with this experiment. No so loving the snow dump we has on the weekend and the effects on traffic. It does look very restful and pretty in your photo.

same kind of paper effect but much cheaper :) really nice looking, the pooling water creates a really neat effect.

if the weather stays like it is now, we will need a lot of cans of that fake snow to try to get in the festive mood lol gets everywhere tho, but not where you want :p

Just when I thought I'd have to show up on your doorstep to have you teach me your style with portraits, you show me all that snow!! Guess it can wait until spring :) I love this, as I do all your portraits but you can keep the snow there, please.

I felt terrible for all of my friends on the eastern coast who had to shovel all of that snow. I'm living in Botwood (near GFW) and we didn't get any of that, it's cold here tho.
Your art is stunning, I think the experiment is a sucess.

Hi Jeanette,
Your painting is very successful. So often when I have done a line drawing and then add color I wish I had both drawing and painting. May I suggest that you keep this one just as it is and do another painting to add line to. This is a painting to keep. I am intrigued by the photo paper.
Hugs
