The shell game

And it really is becoming a bit of a shell game as I'm trying another video as part of a tutorial.  I still need to get lights right and sound.  Its being recorded with my Flip video, which is beautifully simple to record with and to upload.  I need to get a larger tripod for it and a suitable viewing spot.  Next time I hope everything will work as I plan.

You may need to adjust the sound to hear my voice.  I am conscious of the fact that I need to keep talking and to do that and paint really is quite challenging.  So forgive me when I trail off or babble, its beyond my control at this point.

I still had some of these lovely shells sitting on the table in the studio and thought I'd play around with another watercolour sketch of one, combined with some footage as well.  This is part one.

Such a small brush you're using for this! In many of the watercolor demos I've watched, the artist uses proportionally enormous brushes, and I've been trying to emulate that.

Fascinating watching you work -- I'm looking forward to part two!

I like the control with a smaller brush Ernest. I've never liked huge big mop brushes to put on initial washes, unless the piece is very large. But I guess everyone does things differently. Yes, you can get more pigment/water on paper with a larger brush, but you sacrifice some control with it.

More to come soon.

Absolutely fascinating to watch, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing it! I've never been able to get on with larger brushes so I feel that watching this will be very helpful. I love the subtle colours and the unhurried way you are building up the layers and of course I'm looking forward to seeing the finished shell!

Very well done and it is nice to hear your voice! This is fascinating to me watching you build up those layers of watercolor. I look forward to the next installment!

Thanks Felicity, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm feeling my way along in this technology.

I like the control of smaller brushes too.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Ann. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll have the next installment.
