Making time

Weekends are never my own it seems and this one has been no different.  I wanted to get some more gyotaku work finished but only managed tiny inroads into that.  I'll accept is as inevitable and keep trying.  I need to make more studio/painting time for 2011and keep phone calls/email/other people at bay if I am to make progress in what is already a limited window of opportunity for painting.

After I got some major things done today, a couple more snowmen fell off the brush.  Why I'm suddenly doing these I don't know.  Quick, easy and mindless perhaps, with no one standing over me for time or need.

Sometimes its necessary to just do something for yourself and let everything else disappear.  Its a form of relaxation and regaining of sanity for me quite often.  I used to feel guilty about taking time for myself, but not anymore.  Everything else can wait its turn or as a friend said, ' Make time to do what is necessary.  The alternative is far worse.'

I'm enjoying your snowman series. I have to say that top one with the plaid shirt is my absolute fave. I've got a thing for plaid this year. I'd never have thought of putting plaid on a snowman, tho.

I think this snowman is making a wish upon a falling star:-)
How true that we have to push away that awful guilt about doing something just for ourselves. This would be a great new year resolution!

Was happy to see your new snowman this evening. I like the golden colors you are using, so different than the blue colors that are traditionally used for snowmen.

Hope you can devote more time for painting, I really enjoy seeing your work.

I love your snowmen, Jeanette. And what your friend said is very true. The less time we make for ourselves, the worse we feel, and the next thing you know everybody around feel the effect.

You're right, time becomes even more of a premium during the holidays.

I like your snowmen, too! Maybe the lack of features makes them less demanding when it comes to drawing proportion/etc makes them mindlessly freeing. I need to try them!

Gorgeous snowmen! I'm glad you're painting them - I love seeing them :) xx

It's allowing ourselves time to play isn't it... I love the expression on the first snowman's face!

I much prefer your snowmen without mouths - for some reason, it gives them a haunting quality that is different from the totally jolly and in-you-face snowmen you see most places. I LOVE them! You could market them in a line of cards - or just sell them on your site. This time of year, especially, your time is always taken by someone/something else that seems so important at the time. Hermits have the right idea!! ha ha

These have a sort of "old world" quality to them, Jeanette, that I love. Definitely grab the time for yourself when you can. No one else is going to grab it for you! Have a wonderful Christms.

Billie, a country snowman should always wear plaid. :)

Indeed Christiane. No guilt, do as you like for 2011!!

Thanks Cindy. I wanted a different colourway for these little folk. Its all down to values and shapes isn't it, rather than colours.

Yes Yelena, time, especially for artists, is a prerequisite for happiness.

Minimal features does make it easier Tracy. Then the values help shape the expression and face.
I hope you do create some, they're great fun to do!

Thanks Pat, I will get them out of my system soon. :)

Hedera, they're all so unique and just seem to 'happen' without much planning on my part.

Rhonda, I like the mouthless version too. There's a sense of mystery to them. I've put a few for sale to my newsletter subscribers last night.

Yes, they do have that older look Sue. I rather like it using golds and ochres. And yes, I'm getting better at slicing out my time and not compromising. Merry Christmas to you as well. I hope you get lots of time to spend at home.
