Balancing act - in progress

I am toying with which paintings I will put into the next exhibition and what needs to be framed - or created.  Waiting for layers to dry on one piece, I played around with this bumblebee balancing on a flowerhead.  I've not done many insects close up and, truth be told, I do have a fear of insects.  So examining one closely is a bit daunting for me.

I chose the least menacing of them, a loud, round, furry bumblebee.  We have lots of them around here and uncovered a nest of them at the edge of the woods by the meadow the other day.  They're large and not as fast moving as honeybees, looking more like flying teddy bears I think.

I'm still wondering how that weight balanced on the flowerhead...precariously of course.

This is an 8 x 10 piece in oils on gallery canvas.  The first layers are down and detail will pull it together over the next couple of days.

This looks like a great start Jeanette! I don't fear that many insects, but bees I do try and stay away from, I've become allergic to them.

Love this already! I've always been fascinated by bugs. You did choose one of the more cuddly looking ones. I've never been able to kill a bumblebee.

this is delightful! I like the softness - personally I wouldn't get over detailed on this, keep the softeness.

I'm with you on not being keen on insects but fuzzy bees are exempt :>)

Thanks Rose, yes, some people do have allergic reactions to them so best stay away if possible.

Suzanne, he's such a fuzzy creature, almost appealing. :)

Billie, I really don't like insects. They are interesting to examine close up like this though, but I'd never tolerate one on me or near me.

Vivien, thanks, the bee is a challenge for me, simply because I have to examine it closely for a long time and it does creep me out a bit.

I am trying to keep it soft, so far so good.
