Twelve for 2012

After reading a similar post on Casey Klahn's blog, The Colorist, I thought I'd borrow his idea of choosing 12 of my favourite paintings that I produced this year.   The process of curating and jurying your own work gives you a more critical eye for composition, value and colour.  It can be difficult to step back from your own work and be objective, but whittling down the pieces through a series of slide shows, the same way as any juried work would be selected, helped me make my choices.

So here is my selection, not in any ranked order.  Its a bit of an eclectic bag, but aquatics seems to push its way to the front somehow.  As always, there are other pieces that didn't make the grade, but that I enjoy on various levels. Its a good exercise to go through and I'd highly recommend it.  What you thought may be your favourites may not be once you've really examined them.

Do you have a favourite among them?

Straight Sailing

 Sunshine

Weekend Warriors

Dragon Gate

Heat Wave

Lucie Rose

The Edge of Freedom

Shallows

Capelin Season

Fisherman's Cut

 N'or Easter

This is a fun idea! Might steal it, with proper attribution of course. Dragon Gate is my favorite. Sunshine is a close second but those two are definitely my favorites by far. Love your work Jeanette!

I'm not sure my first comment passed the test so I'll do it again. My vote is for Fisherman's Cut.

Thanks Rose. By all means, steal away. I borrowed it from Casey, after all, so I can't take full credit.

Billie, is so difficult to choose favourites, this took time to achieve and I'm still humming and hawing over some choices.

A favorite? Very hard to choose from such great work. I have eight favorites but my very most favorite might be "Sunshine". The colors, textures, very nice

I love Sunshine and The Edge of Freedom! Good idea Casey had and I'm sure many bloggers will follow his lead. I even tried it but only came up with 12 paintings and not sure I'd say all 12 were the best of the year so I think I'll hope for a better, more productive 2013! ha ha Have a very Merry Christmas, Jeanette. It's been a pleasure to follow you this year.

Thanks for your comments Twinkle, Sue, Rhonda and Jane. I love knowing which pieces draw the gaze of others. It helps guide me into the future.

It seems that shot of yellow in Sunshine is a winner. :) I've made this piece available as a print as you're not alone in finding it appealing.

I wish you all a happy, relaxing, peaceful Christmas and the best new year ever.
