Clementine
9 x 12 oils
I took a photo of this clementine months ago while it sat on the kitchen counter awaiting its fate. I liked the colours and shapes and knew it was destined for a drawing or painting in the future.
The future came in the form of the
Virtual Sketch Date this month. I chose this image and hope people will enjoy drawing or painting it as much as I did.
Beautiful, Jeanette - I think I'll be doing my own rendition of this one soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI think this one would be much easier in colour than it was in graphite.
ReplyDeleteAnd you did a lovely job with it!
I can almost smell it, Jeanette. You've really captured all the textures beautifully. Very, very nice oil painting. Just the right degree of looseness.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tempting reference.
I dont work in paints very often but oil has always held an interest for me...this is so well done and true to the ref photo...methinks I might get mine out and have a dabble !
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your version Steve.
ReplyDeleteAnita, I think I'm going to try it again in charcoal and see what happens. I couldn't resist the colour version.
Thanks Robyn. Go on, have a go too. I'll bet one of your watercolour versions of this would be stunning.
Vic, I'm on the re-learning curve with oils, as its been years since I used them. I know you'll enjoy your dabble again.
Like this one a lot, Jeanette. Looks as if oils for you are like riding a bicycle - you never really forget how!
ReplyDeleteJeanette, you've rendered the textures perfectly! It's good enough to eat. :)
ReplyDeleteJan, its a slow relearning curve with some hits and a lot of paintovers! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Gina, I like how it turned out too. I never knew how many textures a clementine had!
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteIn fact, you've tempted me to have a go - I haven't done of these in a while but the reflected light is yummy!
oooh I hope you do have a go Katherine. I'll bet it would be lovely in cp
ReplyDeleteJeanette, this is delicious looking. Nice and fresh. Great colors.
ReplyDeleteThe colours in all types of oranges are so appealing aren't they? They beg to be painted. Thanks for stopping by Jo.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteJeanette, thank you for this challenge. I almost gave up on it but was inspired by your watercolor painting of it.
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting and leaving an encouraging comment. :-)
Love the way you painted this! I haven't been able to do fruit well, so I almost didn't try this month, but glad I did!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great image. Thanks for posting it to use on VSD.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is lovely and soft. It has a beautiful dream-like quality to it. It is as if I am daydreaming about eating a delicious clementine.
Wow. I can't believe how beautiful this is. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful painting, a lovely soft glow to it. Thank you for an inspiring photo Jeanette, it was a pleasure painting.
ReplyDeleteI like very much your interpretation. And a great reference photo, this is very important.
ReplyDeleteBesides making good paintings, you also make good pictures!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
What a lovely painting - so soft and very well done! I wasn't able to do the piece this month, but may try it later on - you're inspiring!
ReplyDeleteIt has those wonderful painterly qualities you only see in oil paintings. Lovely work.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the welcome, it was fun to join in, although a little late finding it, really wanted to do mine in colour. There is always a next time.
It's hard coming up with something original to say when a painting is as appealing and fresh as yours is. The delicacy of the colors and the way you suggest translucency is very nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteJeanette,
ReplyDeleteThis was such a fun thing to draw- I am glad you kept the picture for us :)
Your own rendition is just lovely!
This is really quite lovely, Jeanette. I do love the way you handle light in your paintings.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much everyone for your lovely comments. I'm relearning oil painting and its a steep learning curve at times. Little successes keep me hopeful.
ReplyDeleteYour photo was so much fun to paint. I enjoyed your versions so much. Especially the oil.
ReplyDeleteAll of your versions are beautiful but I think I like this one the best. The colors are rich and you did a great job on all of that white stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing the reference. I had fun with this.
BEAUTIFUL! I love this painting. Thanks for letting us use the photo too.
ReplyDeleteMD
Thanks Jeanette for letting your clementine sit out where we can see it and sketch it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your different versions, and might do the same.
It looks great, Jeanette! Thank you so much for a great reference picture. :)
