When I lived in the UK, there was a large corn field where I walked daily with the dogs and the children. Every walk uncovered fossils on the ground that we'd pick up and bring home. They were mostly extinct ammonite species from the Triassic/Jurassic period and most were left behind when I moved back to Canada.
The simple shape is appealing and the colours that come from age and earth add to the appeal. Using granulating watercolours in
Lunar Black and
Lunar Blue (a combination of Lunar Black and Pthalo Blue), they are perfect additions for creating texture and age.
I love the resulting effect of these granulating colours. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christiane. I only seem to use watercolours in sketching these days, but love the effects that can be produced with different granulated colours.
ReplyDeletenice and simple lines :)its one of those shapes that you can just draw over and over again
ReplyDeletehaven't found any fossils around here, even tho people do occasionally find really old artifacts in the area (often Pictish)
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJen, the area I lived in seemed to unearth fossils every time I walked through a field. Roman coins were found there as well and a big stash of Roman artifacts dug up by a group too.
ReplyDeleteThe fossils always interested me and I wish I'd brought them with me, but I couldn't take everything. But drawing that never ending spiral is always appealing.
Thank you Rhonda. The granulating watercolours are so effective at providing an aged texture.
ReplyDeleteVery nice design!!!
