All Roads Lead to the Sea
40" x 40" - oil on canvas
“It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself.”
― Rachel Carson, The Sea Around Us
Beautiful. I admit, I zoomed in on the boat because I had to see all those gorgeous colors you laid down to read "white" in the painting. You have quite a variety of colors in there, cool and warm.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rhonda. I love how much colour can be added to a piece and it still read "white". I tend to put in colours that are found elsewhere in the painting to try to harmonize the whole piece.
ReplyDeleteI find that any colour will work as long as it is the correct value. I also throw in a few specks of complementary or sometimes completely contrasting, colours for interest.
haven't read that book, but great quote :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if its still in print, it was published initially in 1951 and was a best seller.
ReplyDeletethe uni library has a 2 copies, 1955 edition tho but they have it. they have a lot of books I would never had thought they would
ReplyDeletePerfect. Perhaps you'll have a chance to look at it. Yes, universities have a lot of obscure and out of print books at times.
