This photo from my daughter's wedding in June seems appropriate for the rock challenge. The scene is Middle Cove and the dress train looks like a fish's tail almost, giving her a mermaid appearance.
There are photos from a number of locations, but the beach ones appealed to me most.
Another location was downtown St. John's coming up over the brow of one of the very steep hills. My other daughter is the second from the right.

Very nice photos. I love the street scene. Would love to do those buildings some time. I didn't know your daughters were both redheads.
she looks so happy and pretty :) I really like that last photo, its a nice different shot to add to a wedding album.
The pictures with the rocks are great for the challenge, nice interesting shapes and lots of texture to try to replicate :)
Beautiful Jeanette!! SO glad we get to see a glimpse and the first one is just stunning..she is SO beautiful!!
I see you also have the tradition of walking through the town like they do here in France, I love it.
ronell
she looks lovely and those will be very different photos to treasure
the buildings painted like that look so Scandinavian :>)
Jeanette, what beautiful photos and beautiful daughters too! I love the first picture among the rocks with her dress swirled around her feet. You should ask the photographer for permission to use it for a drawing reference. The soft touch of your pencils would only make it more fabulous.
Now we just need to see pictures of the pretty mother of the bride. :)
Thanks everyone for your comments about the pictures. Our big day turned out great as the photos show.
Jennifer Rose, I'm glad you like that last photo. We were trying to duplicate an image from the opening credits of Codco, a well-known Newfoundland comedy show from the 80's and 90's. That was quite a steep hill!
Your daughter is gorgeous, Jeanette! Her skin is the color of alabaster and with the red tint to her hair she's quite a striking beauty! Do you have some Irish in you, by chance? She certainly does look like a mermaid in her gown, too.
Thanks Jeanne. Yes, those houses would be a challenge certainly.
I'll have to get some more photos of them to play with. And red hair changes at will. :)
Jennifer, there's no shortage of rocks here so this was a perfect backdrop.
They are great images Ronell. I think they were more trying to recreate a moment rather than enacting a tradition, but its commonplace now.
Vivien, St. John's row houses are brightly coloured and known as 'Jelly Bean Row'.
Thanks Stacy, seems the copyright now rests with my daughter and husband, so I think I'll be able to use a couple of images to draw from.
Billie, yes, there is a direct Irish connection. Her father was Irish, from Cork. She has the classic Celtic colouring of pale skin, blue eyes and dark hair. The red is optional.
Beautiful photos - I love the classic celt colouring combined with the mermaid swirl!
