Going cold turkey

 oils  8 x 10

This is the face of addiction.

Yes, cat treats are the scourge of the rural feline way of life.  Its true, the rattle of a package anywhere in the house will cause running, loud pleads to do anything for more and more of these little squares of cat cocaine.

Then when the package is empty, withdrawal sets in.  And crankiness.  Extreme crankiness.  Pacing, tripping up humans, complaining loudly and running to the kitchen when even a package of peas is opened in the hopes it may be the cat crack.

Tripod has been banned from these cat treats.  He's not happy about it.  This is the face of addiction.  He's going cold turkey.

What a realistic portrait! Just beautiful.. Yes, I know about addiction to treats.. Jasper (my poodle) knows just where they are and can be very impatient.. He will wait for a few moments, then knocks on the pantry door.

Great painting of your cat with that face who is so mad at you. Ohhh, all those addictions...willpower!

My 2 dogs get a biscuit every night but not until the two dogs next door are let out of their pen for the night. Then they all 4 get a biscuit. My dogs go to the door many times trying to see if their "friends" are out. The 2 next door are also impatient to get their treats. But I love it when I see their anxious faces and satisfaction after they get what they waited all day for.

I forgot to add: Poor Mr. T.

Aren't you supposed to wean addicts off gently? Perhaps with a substitute but more healthy treat?

Poor Tripod (!!) I just love the expression you've caught here

Beautiful painting but poor Tripod - I know addiction to anything (chocolate, coffee, cigarettes) can be so hard and we even get our animals addicted to bad things. Wonder what's in those things?? Can't be good.

poor tripod :/ could be worse, could be an actual turkey :p

sky's the same with gravy bones, does anything for one and knows where they are in the cupboard to get at when no one is looking

Thanks everyone. There's still some tweaking to do in this portrait, but the look is there.

I really would like to know what is in these treats (Temptations is the brand name) that make them so addictive. The withdrawal from them is extreme and I've heard other cat owners say the same thing. Cats will do ANYTHING to get them. I'm sure they must be pure catnip...with soft centres.

And as for other treats, Tripod is different. He has a limited palette and eats two things. Human grade tuna - light, flaky only. And dry cat food - one brand only.

He refuses ALL other food. Fresh fish? Turns up his nose and walks away. Chicken, turkey, beef, pork....he won't touch it.

So he just won't get any treats anymore, if these particular ones cause this reaction in him.
