The last two days have been disrupted by Hurricane Leslie as she barreled through, taking trees and power lines with her. With winds clocked at 137 km per hr there was a lot of damage on the property to trees, luckily no structural damage or not much. Power was out for about 30 hours for the farm and the generator was called into action for basics - and to please the chickens who like a little light later in the day. I know, night lights for chickens, but have to keep those egg layers happy!
Most of St. John's was closed down for the day due to the high winds, downed power lines and poles, trees and debris flying. I didn't attempt to head into the city as I didn't know what streets would be closed or what may fall in my path or if there even would be power at work.
I spent some down time finishing up the demo piece I started in the workshop last weekend. This is watercolour on gessoed tissue.
Trees went down all over the farm.
at the pond...
the back road to the woods...
at the edge of the driveway
within the woods near the house
and in the driveway
Lots of clearing up to do, but power was restored this afternoon and life gets back to normal, more or less. I guess there'll be lots more firewood that wasn't planned for this year.

Happy to hear of no serious structural damage, Jeanette. So... are you to become a Chainsaw Momma?
Ha Pam! You just never know! May leave that to someone else, heaven knows what more damage I'd do with a chainsaw!
Whoa! You guys got hit! Glad it wasn't any worse than it was and you're safe.
It always annoys me, now, when I hear our weatherpeople saying, The hurricane is out of our area now and heading up to Newfoundland. As if no one lives in Newfoundland so it's okay to do major damage there! I always think about your and your trees. Glad everything is ok, except for a bit of cleaning up.
Glad you are ok, and may you get help with all the cleaning up to do!
oh how awful - I always hate it when trees fall. Glad you are all ok.
you forget how powerful mother nature can be when she wants to. thats a lot of fallen trees, when we had a woodstove we would have got the chainsaws out :p
The photos say it all...I am so relieved that you remained safe and unharmed.
Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts. Yes, the storm could have been worse and no one was hurt.
Oh there will be a lot of firewood for years to come no doubt. With two built in woodstoves, I'm sure it won't go to waste.
I do hate to see trees damaged and uprooted though, especially the larger ones.
Let's hope there aren't any more hurricanes heading this way during the season for them!
glad you are safe jeanette ...you were lucky looking at the trees uprooted in the photos...like your demo piece and "i'm the artist" sounds like your w7s went well .
