"Not the least hard thing to bear when
they go from us, these quiet friends,
is that they carry away with them so
many years of our lives. Yet, if they
find warmth therein, who would
begrudge them those years that they
have so guarded?
And whatever they take,
be sure they have deserved."

--- John Galsworthy ---

My sister's dog has died. He was adopted as a stray, a big grey faced part Lab, part who knows what, who loved people, food and sneaking naps on the sofa. Age crept up on him and with it the problems that aging bring.

I did this sketch of him last year, but as he hated having his photo taken, there never was a good reference to use, so the sketch never was elaborated into a portrait.

So hard losing pets. I never had children so pets are my children. Have the run of the house and me.

Some of us in the scavenger hunts wanted to do our pets. There is a thread in the Animal/Wildlife forum where we are posting our pet photos and then we will draw any we want to. Good ref source. Thought you might want to add your Tripod to the mix and maybe draw some of the others. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5761689&posted=1#post5761689

How sad. Ditto what Jeanne said - my cats are very much part of my family.

Jeanne and Katherine, yes I understand well how animals become part of your life. Even thinking about my animals who died 18 months ago still brings tears to my eyes.

Jeanne, I'll have a look at that thread, thanks. Yes, Tripod may be the perfect candidate to add for others to draw.

This is always so sad, Jeanette. We bring them into our homes and know that we will have to suffer their loss but they give us so much.

That's sad, I'm sorry to hear that. Thank goodness you have that lovely sketch to remember him with.
