Blog facelift

I've been working on some blog changes over the last couple of days.  The layout, colour, function, etc. all needed an overhaul and the addition of Blogger's ability to introduce additional pages as tags was a timely addition.

I'm now putting some original work and some giclee prints on sale pages here to make it easy for people to purchase all in one place, more or less.  I'll be adding a few more pages when I can and am looking at other header options.  I guess its a bit like spring cleaning.  Once you do one room, you have to keep going cause all the rest look dingy!

Meanwhile I am starting to wrap my mind seriously around some research and experimentation for a series of work.  I have applied for a grant, but regardless of whether I obtain it or not, the work will still go ahead.  I am pushing in the direction of a more intensive study of gyotaku printing and have just joined  as a member of the Nature Printing Society which offer week long workshops each year in fish and plant printing in the USA. By browsing their website and resources, (and ordering some) I have lots of ideas to keep me inspired well into the future.

This study was done a couple of weeks ago as I experimented with another batik background this time seeing how it worked with a portrait. No, its not a fish, but has a mermaid-like theme to it.

You put me to shame. Do you ever have any downtime?

Rarely. Its sort of built in to me to keep doing something.

As well the older I get, the less time I have. Its like I'm playing catch up for gap years.

I love what you're doing with the Masa paper, Jeanette! Can you combine the batik with the gyotaku? That would really be something.

Btw, thanks for the link. I'm interested in the flower/foliage printing.

That's the plan Billie. I'm going to experiment with a number of different papers and techniques.

I really like your new blog layout and the links to sale pages. I need to do something like this as well, but just haven't found the time. As usual, it's a pleasure to follow your art, both finished pieces and those in progress. You're an inspiration with all the ways you push your creativity!!

Jeanette, the blog redesign looks nice. I am drooling over all the changes I've been seeing on different blogs. I am so ready for a redesign of my own, but need to put it off as I'm trying to finish some pieces to meet some deadlines.

Good luck with your grant and experimenting.

I am really intrigued by the gyotaku technique...

Good luck with your grant, that sounds like an exciting project. I've been doing the same with my blog, a little freshening up. Yours looks really good. I like what you are doing with your pages too. I may try something similar so it is helpful to see how you are setting it up :-)

Ooooh--"the plan" sounds lovely! This looks great so far, Jeanette. I'll enjoy seeing it develop.

The new blog look is clean and friendly with good colors. Great job. Now I have to look around the sidebars and see what you've added :) The portrait is beautiful! I might have left out the limb - it seems to cut right across the middle - or maybe add a few smaller branches arcing off here and there. But the portrait is jaunty, saucy and fun and interesting on the masa paper. Good luck with the grant!

Thanks Chris. It was time to spruce things up a bit and get my head in order.

Stacey, everyone's in freshen up mode it seems. Its great to see.
Good luck with the deadlines, I'm sure you'll do it with time left over.

Thanks Ann, grants are hit and miss, but either way I'll still tackle the project. The grant would just make it a little easier to do.

I like seeing how other people are setting up their pages and colour schemes. Its always inspiring. The birds are yours are perfect.

I just need to knuckle down and do it Sue. Never quite as easy as it starts out is it?

Thanks Rhonda. Yes the 'branch' shouldn't be there. In fact it was a distant shoreline as the image was taken on a boat, but it doesn't read that way and it was just a study so I didn't stress over it.

I really wanted to see if the network of lines would work in a portrait or not. I don't think its too distracting, but it would need some consideration as to the person sitting for the portrait as its fairly 'in your face'. :)
