Clementine in progress
I always associate clementines with Christmas, as they are seasonally available. I don't recall them from my childhood though. We had big navel oranges at Christmas then and kumquats sometimes, but I don't remember these little clementines.
The appeal of easy opening and sweet tasting flesh makes them irresistible, and like potato chips, its hard to have just one.
I set up a partially peeled clementine and started this oil painting on an 8 x 8 canvas panel. Light through the flesh almost glows and I'm getting there with that. Now the peel to form and texture is the next challenge.

Hello Jeanette,
This is a great beginning to what will surely become a great painting. I've always enjoyed clementines as subject matter, as well as, a sweet treat.
The warm yellow glow of light passing through the delicate flesh, the wonderful varieties of orange, greens and yellows in the skin and even their subtle curves and roundness are all irresistible to me.
I can hardly wait to see it when you call it finished!
Have a nice Sunday, Jeanette.
Sincerely,
Gary.
Like a little dose of sunshine... this will be gorgeous!
Gary, I love the colour and light in clementines but haven't painted one before for some reason. With a box full of them that are disappearing fast, I figured I'd better snag a couple and get painting.
Lisa, they really are like that aren't they? That shot of intense colour to brighten the winter is so appealing to paint.
sunshine is right - it's developing a beautiful glow
lovely texture to the fruit :) we use to eat these all the time this time of the year when i was a kid, mom never had a problem if we wanted more than one, much healthier than chips :p
Thanks Vivien, I love the colour in this so far.
Jennifer, that peel is giving me problems, just can't get the colour right on it yet, but I will. And yes, they're great snack food and very addictive!
looking excellent already jeanette lovely glow and the textures of the pith
Thanks Jane, I hope to have some more time to work on it this week.
