Capelin Season continues

 12" x 12"
oil on canvas panel

I just love painting these little fish.  If I ever moved, I'd have to get someone to mail me some! Here is a small update on Capelin Season that I've been working on, off and on.  The fish are just about done, the paper bag is giving me problems.  Its just not looking papery enough.  I have to pay more attention to the values and colour to get it to fall into place.

Its funny how I do the parts of paintings that I like most to almost finished stage, only blocking in other sections before returning to them again.  Then its overcoming the 'blahs' to get the rest finished.  Its a bit like eating the cherry on the ice cream first, then wishing you had it back again.

A few more sessions with the bag and it should be complete.  Wish me luck!

Interesting what you said about eating the cherry first... I tend to do the easiest parts first, putting off the hardest parts for when I have more confidence... but usually I end up kind of fearfully attacking them at the end... I should just go for the cherry on top right at the start! This is a great painting you've done. I love the soft blending in the bag, in contrast with the sparkle of the minnows. I also like the way they twist and turn, and how you have the different textures in this piece. Very nice effects!

Thank you Sergio

Katherine, I think we're on the same page in that thinking, like most people too I would imagine. Its always easier to do the easy parts of what you like most first, then tackle the rest.

I still have to finish the bag, which I'm not enjoying as much as the fish. But I'll get there! :)

Awww Suz, thanks so much. Wish you were closer, but then I'd end up on your doorstep asking you to help me paint paper bags! :) I am well and hope things are brighter for you.

Lol, can you imagine if someone actually did post you some fish? The smell would be revolting! What a fabulous painting. They look so shiny and fresh! Amazing! :0)

Yep, mailed fish wouldn't be nice at all, would they? Ick...

These little fish are great fun to paint.

The fish look so fresh they could be wiggling out of the bag... hope you've finished that now.

Still haven't got back to it yet Sue. Its on hold while I prep for a workshop. Hopefully later this weekend I can tackle it.
