Tripod sketches
5 x 7 sketchbook, graphite

While watching the news tonight I sketched Tripod as he shifted and changed position snoozing on the sofa. Its always good practice to try drawing something that keeps moving and changing shape. I like to see how much I can capture, getting in basic shapes before it moves again.

Tomorrow is my birthday. I never know where the years go and its very true, the older you get, the faster they disappear. Fifty-five. Wow. How did I get that old? Only a moment ago I was 20, or even 30. And now. Wow....

However, I'm happy in my skin and don't deny or hide my age. There's not much I can do about me being me so I accept it and let life take me along to where it wants me to be. And around now, its put me in a pretty good place.

So to help me celebrate tomorrow, while I can't have you all over for cake and wine, I thought I'd be both self serving and giving at the same time. For each person who comments between now and midnight tomorrow (Friday, March 6th) and wishes me happy birthday, I will put their name into a draw to receive a portrait of their choice from me.

The person's name will be announced on Sunday's post and whoever is chosen will get a 9 x 12 portrait by me, using the medium of my choice. The photo can be of you, a spouse, partner, child, animal etc. I will mail the portrait to you at my own cost.

So join in the fun. You could get a free portrait out of it and I won't feel quite so old with your good wishes.

Have a very happy birthday. As of May I will have 5 years on you. And I really wonder how I got that old. And you don't look your age and you keep much more active than I do so you will probably be in great shape for many many years to come. Have something sweet and sinful and enjoy your day.

Happy birthday! :D Age is just a number, I don't act my age and don't have a problem with it, grey hair can be dyed and wrinkles just mean you laugh a lot (well hopefully its laughter not frowning that causes the wrinkles). The years have been going by a lot faster though, which is the only thing that bugs me about getting older :/

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes. Despite having to work, you make my day brighter not just on my birthday, but every day.

Thank you for your friendship.

Happy Birthday dear friend! I hope you do get to sneak out early today and can enjoy a celebratory weekend.

I'm so thankful as I approach a big one in the coming weeks that I have had the time to make great friends like yourself! That makes the years more than worth it. :D

Happy, happy birthday! How very generous of you to give away something of yourself for your birthday. Hope you have a wonderful day and an awesome year!

Happy Birthday, Jeanette! I hope it's a wonderful day for you. Do something nice for yourself. My brain has trouble making sense of the age I feel versus my actual age. So I just ignore my actual age. :)

I'd love to join in (as a one time lurker and constant follower) and wish you a happy birthday. I am heartened everytime I realise there are artists out there that have experienced life and perhaps gained wisdom as well. Gives me hope. Even though I be older, I wait. All the best for the 6th, it's the 7th where I live.
Regards Hillary

Thank you, thank you to all who have commented. Its wonderful to hear from old friends and find new ones too.

My birthday was wonderful, relaxed, full of food and fun and naps. Must be a sign of my age when naps take priority. :)

Tripod will draw a name on Sunday and I will announce who will receive a portrait.

Happy Birthday Jeanettte, out was out of town and just saw this. Believe when you get to sixty six you wish you were 55, you're just a young chick. :)

I love the sketeches!

Thank you Katherine, the younger. :)

Its great fun to try to capture moving subjects Gesa, even if the cat sometimes cooperates and becomes a statue in his sleep.

Mary, thank you. Age is quite relative and we're all 18 at heart.
