Colours and shapes

Its been another really busy weekend and only tonight that I've had much time to concentrate on any painting.
Today the exhibit at Masonic Temple was taken down and now another one is looming which opens on October 6th.

While I deal with the flurry of things that must occur to make the next exhibit work, I'm still considering where I want to go and what I want to do with my art.  Sometimes just painting without thinking too much about it helps.  I know I always overthink my art and that can be the downfall.  Those first strokes are often the best ones, only to be obliterated by other strokes that take away the freshness.

I was determined to let the paint lie as it fell in this start of a self portrait.  Its oil on an 8" x 8" canvas panel.  Nothing serious, no under drawing, no thinking, just me feeling my way through the world of colour and shape.

Hi Jeanette,
This just isn't fair! I work and slave and re-work and in a few strokes, you paint a beautiful self-portrait!
It must be easier when you're lovely and lack the wear and tear my mug has endured over the years.
But, such jealousy is not becoming, so I'll just salute your effort and admire it from afar. I'd be mighty proud of this work if I were you.
Sincerely,
Gary.

Gary, I can soak up your lovely comments, but you're being kind. This sp has the bones of potential but is far from the wall yet. Yours on the other hand, has true life to it.

You'll see the ravages of time appear in this one soon enough. Experience I like to call it..ha

However, I do like the looseness which is what I was aiming for. Can I continue without screwing it up? Keep your fingers crossed!

I challenge you just slop on paint in an sp without thinking. Consider it a little warm up exercise. Go on, I double dog dare you... :)

Good Morning Jeanette,
Double-Dog Dare! That's getting serious! Okay, Missy, I'll make you a promise: Within one week's time, I will act upon this challenge of all challenges. A post of incalculable horror may be anticipated, but the gauntlet has been thrown down and it cannot be ignored.
You, and you alone, have done what no one, including myself, has been able to accomplish. I'm getting nervous just thinking about this!
See you soon.
Sincerely,
Gary.

Thanks Sue, its a nice little interlude while I get something else up and running.

Gary, you see, I knew you'd rise to the challenge my friend. Or perhaps its just an inbuilt male trait to not turn away from a double dog dare. :)

I think you'll do beautifully and surprise yourself. Within a week eh? Circling it on the calendar...
