I did it

I gritted my teeth and buoyed by suggestions from others, I tackled a flower. Now its not a great flower, and I know there are elements of it that I could change, but it IS a flower. And flowers scare me. I guess I should make that the past tense: flowers scared me.

They still do,but I think it is because my interest lies more in drawing animals or people rather than landscapes or flowers, so I shy away from them. However, the experience wasn't quite as painful as anticipated, so maybe I'll have a go at another one. This was sketched out in pencil, then a wash of watercolour and finally some touches with my rapidograph pen.

Just like the Little Engine The Could! I'm proud of you, and it's a lovely flower. Keep it up and you'll be tackling that crabapple tree before you know it.

Awwww Blade, thank you. Onwards and upwards, bring on the flowers. :)

i know that fear well, Jeanette. i have the same fear of roses. i have yet to produce a rose i'm proud of. oddly enough i don't grow them either even though i'm a avid gardener.

i think you've done a splendid job on your first bloom!

I see you decided not to go with something easy for your first flower! And you've really pulled it off brilliantly.

I think they're all difficult Dave! And thank you. I need a lot of practice to get something fluid and lovely.

This one is already fluid and lovely. Just ask us and we'll tell you. Great job as I knew it would be.

About your reply in my blog, here in sunny California, we grow lots of cacti. There is a nursery with just those and succulents. Some of them are huge.

I'd never have guess that flowers scare you! I love the look of this one, not too soft and frilly, but very confident and strong.
Beautiful colour combo!

Well...I was all ready to tell you "I told you so!", but everyone else is being so nice.

You did a great job on your flower Jeanette! I really like the addition of ink. And even though your main interest is in drawing different subjects, it's always good to know there is nothing you can't draw if you just sit down and try! :)
