Apple macro II

A single apple on its own deserved a companion so I tried another, this time in green.

Greens are always a challenge to me and I don't have more than a couple of tubes of green in my oils arsenal. Mixing blues and yellows help and in green apples there are also a lot of yellows and blues that stand on their own in the form of highlights and shadows.

This, sitting next to the red from yesterday, would make an interesting pair of complementary paintings with some symmetry in the stems to balance them.

This is also an 8 x 8 inch canvas panel in oils.

Very nice companion piece, not as "in your face" as the red apple so complements it in color and feeling. I ate an apple last night but that's as close as I've gotten to trying to sketch or paint one recently.

Your apples are wonderful - love seeing the brushstrokes and I do enjoy a macro view!!

Yesterday I picked apples from our old apple tree. Like all varieties from these old growth trees, these apples are small, irregularly shaped and have blemishes - but they taste great in pies and other dishes. I sauteed a few with butter and spices to accompany our morning pancakes- yum. Yeah for apples! :-)

they do look really nice together :) you need more greens in your oil arsenal ;) I'd go insane with out all my green pencils lol
but you did get a good variation in green tones with the greens you do have

Yes, it is more subdued Rhonda. Perhaps the quieter cousin of the firery red extrovert. :)

I enjoy inspecting things close up too Teresa. And your gathering of apples from old growth trees makes me remember doing the same from ancient orchards that were behind my house. Those misshapen fruits did make the best pies!

Jennifer, I think I have a fear of green that goes along with my flower fear. I tend to avoid greens. Perhaps I need to make an effort to green things up a bit.

Jeanette, I am loving the apples. A big favorite of mine. Of course I haven't painted any for the challenge yet. Yikes. Your greens don't show any struggle. :)
